Others may know better but I believe Tenax was a seamed chromoly tubing & therefore was less expensive and "lower on the totem pole" that it's similar but seamless Chromor stablemate. When Tenax was first introduced as a product, it was called "Matrix", but Trek soon contacted Columbus with fact that Trek already owned that label. Rather like the more recent Campagnolo Daytona component group having to be changed to Centaur.....
