In 1938, Constrictor offered four variants on the Conloy, two wired-on's and two sprints, all of which were made from drawn alloy tubing vis ;

Standard Conloy No.4 (18oz / 510g) - A 1.1/8" wide rim suitable for 1.1/4", 1.3/8" and 1.1/2" tyres in 26 inch and 28 inch sizes. (38/- per pair)

Asp Conloy No.4A (15oz / 425g) - A 1" wide rim suitable for 1.1/8" and 1.1/4" tyres and 26, 27 (English & French) and 28 inch sizes (35/- per pair)

Sprint Tubular Conloy (13oz / 368g) - Drawn from 18g tubing and available in 26 inch and 27 inch. (33/- per pair)

Ultra Sprint Tubular Conloy (10oz. / 283g) - Drawn from 20g tubing and available in 26 inch and 27 inch. (32/6 per pair)

All have that classic Constrictor semi-circular shape, though somewhat shallower in the case of the tubular version. Much as these late 30s rims are light even when compared to some of Mavics more modern creations, I'd much rather find a pair of steel Constrictor Copper Mamba sprints - weighing in at massive 19oz / 538g, these were produced at the Constrictor Tyre Co's own factory and finished in Copper. Only one ounce heavier than the standard Conloy yet almost half the price !
