Monthly Rose Bowl vintage ride
It has been suggested that we have a monthly theme, so this month's ride theme will be California bikes: builder lives in California, or the bike company was in California (Univega, Rivendell, Italvega, etc) or bike is spec'd in California (Bianchi USA, Bridgestone, etc.) or the bike is painted in California (Richard Sachs, etc.) or has a California name (Sequoia, Mt. Whitney, Pacific Coast Highway, etc.). If you don't have one it matters not in the least; ride whatever you like.
I'll be riding a new to me (and first public outing) dark green 1976 Wizard (Brian Baylis & Mike Howard) with Nervex lugs, early Super Record group, Art Stump modified crank, seat post, brake levers and calipers, lots of O.M.A.S. aluminum and titanium fasteners, Regina Ti chain and Record Extra freewheel, AND with just about every last part on the bike anodized GREEN by the original owner (an old friend of mine from the '70s, thanks Eugene). Serial #72 (Brian says there were 75 all told).
Starts at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California every FIRST Sunday of the month.
Meet at the pool/picnic area parking lot at the south end of the park at 10:30 am to introduce yourselves, talk bikes and swap parts. Ride will start at 11:00 am sharp.
The ride will be a casual paced 25 miles long through Pasadena, South Pasadena, San Marino, Temple City, Arcadia, Sierra Madre, Altadena, and back to the Rose Bowl for more vintage bike talk. The ride is mostly flat with one moderate climb (fixed gears are fine in other words).
Everyone is encouraged to bring and ride a 1985 or earlier bicycle, but feel free to ride anything you have.
