My brother had a bike that he bought for his wife in the early 80's. It was used when purchased from Bobby Kemp in North Hollywood and had been repainted. I always thought it was a French bike but now I'm not sure. The distinctive parts are the Mafac center pull brakes that are fitted to brazed on posts (like cantilever brakes). I remember seeing those on the most expensive Peugot models in the 80's. It has a Campy seatpost and Neuvo Record rear but a Simplex front and some inexpensive TA cranks. Very nice lugs that are quite long and with wrap around rear stays. I would think the bike would be worth something just for the Mafac brakes but maybe they are more common than I think. So ... any idea about this bike's heritage?
