Check out http://www.shimanoax.co.uk It's a "fan site" for Dura Ace AX
and has some information about bikes equipped with that group. Lotus
made an AX equipped bike with very interesting tear drop profile head
tube; good pictures of this bike are available at the American Cyclery
site:
http://www.bicycletrader.com/collection/bike32.html
More pictures are at the Rydjor collection:
http://www.rydjor.com/bikecollection/1981lot.htm
The Vista Aero Team was also equipped with the AX group. While it
appears that the Lotus bikes are fillet-brazed (except for the cool bb
that excepts aero profile tubes), the Vista has an interesting type of
lugged construction in which the minimal lugs receive aero profile tubes
but do not encircle the head tube and seat tube. Is there another word
for this type of joint? Pictures are available at First Flight:
http://www.firstflightbikes.com/Vista.htm
Neat, eh? My enthusiasm is partly due to my receipt yesterday of a
Vista Aero Team via UPS. Unlike the one at First Flight, this one has
the complete Dura Ace AX group and includes the original fork with
recessed brake mounting bolt.

Vista and get it on the road.

Try to find a typical "aero" frame of the 80s. Probably every major
company offered such a model with lugless frame, ovalized tubes, fast
back seat stays, shift lever bosses on tob of the down tube, etc. Best
would be a frame made by one of the high end japanese builders. IMHO
such a bike made by 3Rencho., Nagasawa,..., Zunow:
http://bulgier.net/pics/bike/Catalogs/zunow/5.jpg beats most european
and american high end bikes of that time. A similar Miyata should be
findable. There's a local bike shop (exactly at the opposite side of the
world), that still has some AX parts at least I've seen some cranks with
the big pedal threads there. Dirk -- Dirk Feeken Heidelberg Germany

Subject: [CR]Dura-Ace AX Components Good day, Since I recently bought a
Shimano "Support Bike", I have taken in interest in Shimano groups. One
that really intrigues me is the AX group. I am thinking of building a
bike with this group. Does anyone have any suggestions about frameset
would be considered appropriate for this group, since it was very modern
for its time. Cheers, P. Lynn Miller Sydney, Australia --- StripMime
