[CR]Re: Info needed for U. Testi bike (Jonathan Agnew)

(Example: Events)

Hi David-

I have an Umberto Testi Cambio Corsa bike in original condition, and it is a thing of great beauty indeed. Nickel frame, gossamer thin and fragile light blue flam, chrome headlugs, and distinctive multicolor painting and writing on the seat tube, down tube, and headbadge. The Umberto Testi name is worked into the knurled headset ring; headbadge is elaborate with a winged wheel logo quite reminiscent of the winged wheel logo we're all familiar with, and the badge is hand painted with world championship colors. In terms of the history of the brand, it was highly regarded in its day by knowledgeable racers. The writing on my frame cites "Campionato del Mondo" for 1947 and 1948. I have not yet been able to confirm whether this indicates what I think it might (or should, unless they were making exaggerated claims), which is that the (almost certainly amateur) world road championships were won on Testi bicycles for those years.

Like you, I would be most interested in anyone who can provide, or direct us to, additional information about the brand.

I"ll check for you to see what the serial number is.

I am pretty new to vintage lightweight bikes and I am trying to find info on a U. Testi bike that I got. It has Cambio Corsa, Magistroni Crank-set and Universal brakes. I cant find any serial number on it, but it has been repainted so they might be covered up.

Any info that would help me date this bike and determine the model (or any other info) would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

David
