Message Subject: RE: Campy Hi-Lo

Years (and years) ago, I bought a set of Campy Hi-Lo hubs from Bike Warehouse (now Nashbar). This was in the days when they still sold ALAN frames, Hi-E hubs and pedals, etc., etc.

Still have those hubs, sitting in their box. Six speed, in a high flange box.

One of the things nobody seems to want to dare say about Campy is that by the late 70's early 80's, quality control of not just product manufacture, but inventory control also, was, well, lax.

In 1980 I built up a Colnago with a NR groupset purchased all at once. The set was beautiful but had a mix of stampings and ID marks.

The finished bike rode just fine - who knew then, that 23 years later, a date mark would make a difference to anyone?
