Subject: [CR]Mavic brakes, etc.

Spent Thanksgiving in my hometown (sort of) of Little Rock, AR. Visited The Chainwheel bike shop on Rodney Parham Rd. at I-430. For anyone visiting Little Rock, this is the foremost shop and worth visiting. They have a very early Richard Sachs on the wall. They claim it is the first he made for sale under his own name. What about this Richie? They also had a Speedwell, a Colnago with Hellenic stays and two 7-11 team bikes on display.

They let me rummage through their used parts bin. I bought a pile of used stuff for $25, including a RH Campy Victory crank with rings, an "erector set" Mavic RD missing the pivot bolt, a rather scuffed Galli RD missing pivot bolt and pulleys. Also a set of Mavic brake calipers. These have the return springs inside the the caliper arms. They are marked 0292. Is this the month and year of manufacture? If so they are OT - sorry Dale. Were these made by Diacompe as I think I've heard discussed here? The front return spring is extremely weak or perhaps broken. However, I think I've heard that some of these brakes had return springs in the brake levers, requiring minimal spring tension in the calipers. Can anyone tell me more about these? Also, I seem to have accumulated several RD's missing Campy-size, non spring loaded pivot bolts. Did anyone make generic pivot bolts like this. Can they still be bought anywhere?
