Hello,
I recently had a chat with Ed Litton about the dating of Pogliaghi frames (Pre Basso etc). While it is difficult to determine yearly production numbers it is clear that very few were produced per year making numbers that appear on bikes to be too high. After some discussion Ed suggested that maybe the first number in a 4 digit series refers to the year of production. For instance #9125 would be 125th frame in '69 - this idea came about because Ed's particular bike (not sure of number but begins with 9) was purchased by him close to this date. My track frame is #7800 - could this mean the 8th frame made in 1967 - surely not the 800th frame? Does this idea have any validity? Does anyone have other ideas?
Thanks, Mike Short, Austin Texas.
