The outer SR ring was brand new, and unused as was the SR 42. The only change I made was the substitution of a NR 42 inner ring. There was then less deflection. Stevan Thomas Alameda, CA >>

During this discussion about chainring flex due to chainline vs. flex due to bottom bracket movement, has anyone given any consideration to crankarm torque? The crankarm is adjacent to two spider arms... pushing down on the pedal spindle is gonna torque the arm causing one spider arm to move in and one to move out, right? Perhaps this effect is too small to be significant, but it certainly seems like something that a NR chainring (with inner web) would stabilize, so perhaps it is a contribuing factor to the effect you are noticing?
