The Campagnolo motorcycle and automobile rims were made from high quality castings which were then precisely machined and balanced.

In contrast, Campagnolo bicycle rims are/were made from tube rolled aluminum extrusions.

I'm not sure how expertise gained with quality castings would have applied to extrusions and tube forming.
