You would be correct about damaging the tubing with two caveats. One is you're pulling the tube to replace it so it doesn't matter if the tube is damaged or not. Also if you're using some of the new steels (Reynolds 853, True Temper Platinum, etc.) to build your new retro-classic it shouldn't effect the tubing.
