And as long as I'm on the Blower; I have to confirm a rumor I heard yesterday at the ride. Someone mentioned, I believe it was Chuck, that there is NO LONGER a Krispy Kreme donut outlet next door to Dales' shop in Greensboro. Is this a fact?? Confirm or deny, oh Master. It used to be that you couldn't swing a dead cat near Dales' shop and not hit a KK donut shop. OK, THAT does it! My love affair with KK donuts is officially over. Since its intoduction as the "official donut" of the CR list I have been just slightly uncomfortable with all of the HOOPLA over how good they are. Having conversed privately with numerous listmembers over the past two years on this topic it is evident that every town in the USA has a donut shop, or 3 or 5, that make more distinctive looking and tastier sugary disks than KK does AND for less money.
I took note when the local outlet opened in El Cajon, CA, where I purchase all of my KK's, began with a price of $.70 each for these bad boys for the privlidge of watching them being produced en mass without any human hands touching them. Price for one doz. regular was $5.49 while the price for an assorted doz was $5.99. Fair enough. I always bought the assorted so the $6 is what I spent. A while ago the regular doz price was increased to $5.99 where the assorted remained. I thought to myself I'm glad I don't buy the regular ones. SUCKERS! Next thing I know the assorted price has been raised to $6.49. Well I just bought the last KK I'll ever eat. I'm still not over being DISSED bigtime by the company when they did NOT comme to me begging for the rights to produce the "Twizzler Donut" I invented. What's wrong with them, anyway?
Chuck told me yesterday that he was looking forward to NOT having to spend 1 1/2 hrs. each morning of Velo Rendezvous to fetch the souless KK's when superior cakes can be had locally. I feel we should support the small local custom donutmaker during our events henceforth. Agreed?
The world famous "Chrome Donut" art series will feature local donuts only; purely for their character and charm as compared to mass produced production donuts. Can you imagine trying to order a custom donut from KK? Why, yesterday when I drove thru, they didn't even have a "monthly feature" donut available!
To put the icing on the cake, so to speak, I can top that. In recent conversations with DALE himself; maybe even as I was skillfully guideing him in circles as we attempted to reach Pergolizzi for dinner last week, we discussed our mutual dissatisfaction with the KK dounts' ability to stand up to local donut standards of aesthetics, value, and taste performance. Therefore, we have no choice other than to seek and consume the more afforadable and tastier local variety of donut. I can only hope this event does not effect KK stock prices too severely for those who are invested in same. Good Bye, Krispy Kreme! C-YA! Wouldn't want'a be YA!
