Into the abyss... One point that hasn't been addressed as far as I have noted is the difference in FEEL of a lightweight bike. Not being a racer or having pretentions to be one, I am far less concerned with absolute quantifiable performance than the subjective tactile sensation of riding. I ride for the feel of it. A light bike feels different under you as you ride. The lighter bike feels more lively and responsive to road irregularities, I feel like a spend less effort controlling the bike. A pound or two also makes a very notable difference when you bunny hop a nasty pothole or snap roll the bike into a turn.
