Well, to speak of engineering in this context will certainly bring a smile to
the lips. but to answer your question, it's quite common for wheels on the
same bike to have a different number of spokes. For many years English bikes
had 32 front/40 rear wheels. I rode 32/36 for many years and that's still
very common with riders of a certain weight. In short, it's very common.
