My best (& new) strategy? To save all of these e-mails (on this subject) & make certain that my better half reads them - just to show her how much better I am than you all! Richard Rose (Toledo, Ohio)

Hmmm, I am impressed by these various tales of avoidance and misleadings! You guys have had far more experience than I. I have managed to avoid the situation altogether and I am proud to say, I am 32 years spousal free. I once had a girlfriend who stated, it is me or you slow down on the bikes. I stated, it is me or you slow down on the horses...I walked on by...and years later. Miraculously, I am still alive and well and still enjoying the bikes. The present girlfriend enjoys riding her hybrid so there is peace and tranquility and I just recently got her a set of XC skis and once again, she is content. Does this mean the spousal-free streak will end. Not a chance. I am encouraging her to go back to college..."sure honey, get that degree in nuclear medicine..It is for the best"...and it buys me another 2 or 3 years. Plus she is 10 years below me in age and not revved up for marriage. I am lucky as well.
