As usual, Joe's brain is not too shabby. The Ace appeared in '74, '75 & '76 US catalogs, then was gone for decades. It was below the Newest and above the Finest, equipeed with early/1st gen Dura-Ace.. The '74 catalog pic shows a garish orange frame, which I suspect is a Japan-market pic. '75-'76 show a honey beige/bronze paint, which was called "Ace Brown" on the S12-S Ltd, after the Ace was dropped.

The '70s upper-end line as shown in US catalogs looks like this:

'72-'73: Newest/Finest '74-'75: Newest/Ace/Finest '76: Professional/Newest/Ace/Finest '77-'80: Professional/Newest/Finest

I kind of remember seeing a '70s Ace frame once, but never saw a complete bike. None of these bikes turn up too often these days.
