> Mi amici nuove,
> I am a new listee, close friend of Wayne Bingham, who has given me the
retro virus. I am a rabid racer (175 races in 6 years--road, cyclocross,
and track) but always fascinated by the lore and color of the racing of days
gone by. (P.S. I raced against the famous Richard Sachs in the final
running of the Killington Stage Race, 40+ field). I am less a bike weenie
and a more of a racing history buff. Though I own 7 bikes, they are
strictly for racing but have purchased my first vintage bike--a 1982 Ciocc
World 77 model (all Super Record). Wayne is helping me return it to it's
period state.

> My question is if anyone has any historical knowledge of Ciocc. Their
website is under construction and my knowledge was gleaned from google.com
searches (there is little out there). What I do know is the frame
maestro/founder of Ciocc (chee-och) was Giovanni Pelizzoli. Ciocc was his
nicknamed (local dialect for "poker faced" thus the Ciocc badge of four aces
in a cross formation). Claudio Corti won the 1977 U23 Worlds on a Ciocc at
San Cristobal Venezuela--hence the name of their signature model. They also
had a model called "Mockba 1980" for the Moscow Olympics though now sure why
since the winner of the RR was a russian on a Colnago. Giovanni Pelizzoli
later help found and design all of the first models of the Masciaghi tubed
Fausto Coppi frames when that company was formed. Supposedly (I hear this
often from others too) many pros rode repainted Cioccs in the 1980's.
Giovanni Pelizzoli passed away (I think) and his two apprentices now run
Ciocc. If anyone has anymore info on Ciocc bikes or history, I would
appreciate it. BTW the lugs on mine are filed beautifully into teardrops.
Photos soon. Thanks in advance.
