Hi all, well now I have finally finished modifing the chain as per Mark
Bulgier's method, thanx Mark, it worked a treat. My doner chain was a
second hand black item, from a fellow Kiwi listmember as a broken item, I
had cleaned it and put it aside for a day if I ever got another one to
make one out of the two. But by the time I shortened it its the correct
length, for now anyway.
I still need to give the SS dropout a tickle with a carbide tip in my
die grinder at work, as the Campagnolo SR RD is to verticle, I find they
do perform a little better when hung a little more forward, also aids in
chainwrap on the freewheel. Once this is done I will no doubt have to
take another couple of links out.
So to end, it can be done, and with the correct tools and good knowledge
can be done to a factory finish, many thanx to all who expressed one way
or the other on my project, did it work they say?, yes very well, I went
for a ride and it works just fine for a second hand chain with just a
little bit of wear, but please also take into account, I am using a
Regina alloy freewheel, and I'd like to keep it for a few years. If and
when it breaks you will be the second to find out, my doctor maybe the
first :-).
One day soon, probally when I fit my Regina Ti freewheel, I will modify
my nice NOS silver chain and fit it, that day will be most likely the day
I fit my NOS Galli crankset, and also the day I fit my Campagnolo Pista
Ti spindled pedals, ahh the joys of a lightweight work in progress, just
in passing, anyone gotta set of 3TTT handlebars with the tops flattened?,
yeah right! they all say, still better to live in hope than not to live
at all, sorry for the long read......regards wayne davidson Invercargill
