Finally built the mid-70's Raleigh Pro I acquired a month or two ago. All correct NR except I apparently no longer own any five-speed freewheels, so there's a six in there. NR bar-end shifters. Yes, Stevan, they work pretty darn well, feel pretty darn good. Oops.... set the bar-ends up with modern teflon housing. Is it true that the stainless steel spring housing is no longer to be had?
That bike rides nicely. Substantial. Very stable, a bit more than I prefer, but still a nice feel. On the stiff side -- solider than an SL ride. I'm ging to have to hunt down a five-speed freewheel so I can take a spin on the Mavic MdO tubie wheels I got at the swap. Looking forward to feeling the bike the way it was meant to be felt.
Curious -- are all vintage Campy bar-ends non-symmetrical? Right identical to left, screw goes through both from the same side, lock nuts thread on both from the same side? I'd never set up Campy bar-ends before. I got a huge kick out of the fact that a T wrench socket fits snugly into the recess where the 8mm locknut lives.
Oh yeah. Seeking 12-13 vintage stem. Prefer 3ttt Record, but I've got bars for either ttt or Cinelli.
Cheers,
