The last Montelatici (mon-teh-LAH-tee-chee) that Matteo mentioned that is
still for sale, is a 51 ctc with no fork, for $250. Comes with decals, water
bottle, 2 pair of badged bar plugs and a lot of ju-ju. Made by Cinelli SpA in
Milano for his old buddy from their Junior racing days, Vasco Montelatici.
Vasco opened his shop in Firenze at the close of WW2 and immediately started
having frames built and sponsoring local talent. As soon as Cino was in the
frame business, Vasco called him for frames and no one else. Sante Ranucci
won the World Amateur Road Championship in 1955, so the frame may wear "world
bands" on the seat tube. I'm working on writing up a history and perhaps Dale
will post it on the CR site along with pictures of all the bikes?
Vasco is currently in hospital due to internal hemorrhaging. I'm hoping he
recovers enough to edit my history.
