Have so much work to do and mail to answer I can't take time for some of the Cirque related material. Wayne and several others are doing a good job of getting the idea across. I would like to write a few things though; mainly ride reports on the three rides I went on. I'd like to share my take on one of the speakers and mention some special friends and some special moments.
The business at hand is that "Sterling Peters Productions" is announcing a vintage ride centered here in San Diego near the SD Velodrome in Balboa Park (Morley Field). The date is MAY 17, Saturday. The time is between 9am and 12noon on the track. I'm sure we will have had enough by then. This will be an informal race or whatever comes up when we get there sort of affair. I believe one must have a track bike to ride on the track; but anyone who wants to join us for the party afterwards is welcome to come watch or just come to talk and eat. Sterling has an extra track bike that is 55.5 C-C he says. Contact Sterling if you want to borrow the bike at the track. This will be an opportunity for us So. Cal (and whoever else can join us) track people to get together and get in a few laps on the velodrome. Perhaps I will take the chrome Masi Special track frame that just appeared at Le Cirque out for its' maiden voyage on the track. We can ride a warm-up paceline and even a burn out at the end if the group can handle it. The track is open to the public Saturday mornings between 9am and 12pm. I would imagine there will be others present as well. I will bring out an extensive collection of Baylis track bikes to check out. Perhaps my Hetchins track bike and my Tesch Custom S-22 track machine can make rare appearances. The oldest of my own frames that I posses is a track bike I built in 1979 while in Costa Mesa, CA. It has had 4 owners during that time but I am the only person who has ever ridden it! I bought it back from a guy for $400 in about 1990 or so. What a score.
After the fun and games at the local velodrome we will adjourn to the residence of Sterling Peters, where we will commence to eating grilled foodstuffs and swilling beer and whathaveyou. We will need an RSVP to get a headcount to guide our purchaseing of food. Let Sterling know if you will be comming to our ride. I haven't been around the track since 1995, even though I live only 12 miles from the track and I own a dozen track bikes. So no need to worry about who is doing what, just bring your track iron and ride around in circles with us. Let's have fun and be safe. Thank GOD Pergolizzi ain't here. There ain't no winning any sprits from that DAWG! Crap, his thighs are so big (fat???) that they hit the seat binder bolt. Time to have some of that shank trimmed off. You look like the Incredible Hulk sorta, maybe not quite so ugly. ;-)! Not being a sprinter myself, my tactic involves a "kilo finish" that is designed to catch the sprinters off gaurd and sometimes unwilling or unable to catch up. If it comes down to a fisticuffs dragrace to the line I'll oftentimes end up second.
After watching all that wild 6 day racing at the Cirque, everyone should be fired up to buzz the track.
