As painful as this is, it¹s finally time to part with my favorite bike.
I have injured my back so badly, that drop bars, short chainstays and skinny tires are something I simply can no longer ride and my 1980 Baylis is now for sale. This is as close to parting with my first born as I am ever going to get. There has never been a bike that has given me as much pleasure as this one, either to ride or to simply sit and admire, so I am hoping someone out there on the list will be interested and I won¹t have to just send it out into the darkness.
I have posted a few pictures for the curious and for anyone that is truly interested I can provide as many more as you like. If you have questions, just let me know. It needs a good home.
Several years ago, I set out to restore the bike to brand new condition with a Baylis re-paint in original colors and during that time I slowly accumulated all of the parts I had on it when it was new. Nearly all of the components are NOS, with a few being in simply very good condition. In addition to the usual mix of components, I have a NOS pantographed chainring and my original pantographed stem. These were produced by Ralph Carnavalli when he was selling Brians bikes. The bike was ridden briefly once before my injury and has been hanging up since. If you ever wanted an exceptionally beautiful Baylis, built in the Italian tradition with vintage parts, this is it. This bike was produced just as Brian was building the last Wizards and is likely the first bike to wear a Baylis decal.
The frame details are stunning up close with Dubois lugs, brake cable though the top tube, a Cinelli SC crown that has been beautifully sculpted to follow the profile of the blades, Confente-ish drop out points, pump painted with matching paint panels, even the relief hole in the seat lug is special. Size is 59ST (C-T-C) with 58TT (C-T-C).

I am asking $3,000 for the complete bike. The proceeds with go back to Mr. Baylis to build me something with long chainstays and enough clearance for big cushy tires.
