This discussion has reminded me of the battle I am personally having about the 20 year cutoff or rolling the CR date forward each year... Yes, it would eventually embrace some pretty odd/cool stuff like "C-Record" but it also would be forced to include stuff that is totally opposite the velo-appeal we (mostly) agree upon.

Therefore, despite previous thoughts, I am strongly inclined to freeze the CR cut off at 1983!

Seeing as how y'all are friends hanging out my garage, what do you think? I promise to listen but not necessarily take your advice! <g> ------------ Here's my two cents-worth. I believe that the center of our relationship is a class of machinery. It's attributes are (with a little fuzziness at the edges): --> Steel frames (with odd-ball aluminum exceptions like the HiE Cosmopolitan, Alan, etc.) --> Tubular frames, joined with fillet brazing or lugs, almost never TiG welded or glued. --> Internal or derailleur shifting (or fixed gear), without indexing (except internals). --> Pedals with toe clips (or Cinelli M-71, etc).

If the 20-year rule means accepting more and more indexing, clipless, and Ti, aluminum, and such, I predict there will arise a competing list for "purists." We've already given up one former near-universal criterion for neat bikes, sew-up tires (me too), but I'll probably draw a line in the sand about the others, for myself. The newer stuff just works too well to be challenging. :-)
