Lacking a special tool, we used to set a screw driver on the spring, about
where the loop is or wherever works for you, and give it a tap with a hammer.
Crude but effective.
It's a good idea to grease the pivots and do a careful adjustment of the gap
between the arms, then a wee drop of oil where the spring contacts the caliper
arm. They're always dry and they work better lubed, just like everything
else.
