Well, one reason I can think of is that the end of a Campy track axle should be chromed, which looks nice against the chrome axle nuts.
Of course, you could get a neat effect painting the axle ends to match the frame.

\r?\n> Dennis et al,
\r?\n>
\r?\n> I have a NOS Campy BMX hubset that's 110 in the rear.
\r?\n> It's designed for a freewheel only.
\r?\n>
\r?\n> I wonder why you wouldn't simply use the axle from a
\r?\n> 120 set and grind it down a bit? Or any other axle
\r?\n> with the same threading. There must be a few BMX axle
\r?\n> floating around that would work. 110 is standard for
\r?\n> BMX. I'm gonna go stare at the QBP catalog for a
\r?\n> minute.
\r?\n>
\r?\n> Please let me know what I can do to help. I'd be
\r?\n> happy to measure everything if you need it.
\r?\n>
\r?\n> And BTW, I am interested in all things 110 related.
\r?\n> Can you talk about this project a bit more?
\r?\n>
\r?\n> All the best,
\r?\n>
