Isn't that why panel decals were invented?
Last spring when my custom built, 2 month over due (& off topic) frame finally arrived, I dashed into the service shop at the bikestore I work at. Since it was pouring rain outside, the stairs, and my shoes were wet, and before I knew it, my frame was flying across the floor, stopped only by the metal edge of the door jam contacting my downtube. Titanium sure doesn't dent easily!! But the scratch convinced me I really did want the black panel decal on the downtube, after all.
