A couple of years ago we had a "bicycle bandit" in our area that would rob banks and then speed away on a bicycle (and we are in a fairly rural area!). He would ride the bike a couple of blocks away and throw in the back of his pick-up and drive off. This prevented the bank employees from seeing his license plate number. He eventually was caught, but I can't remember how they got him.
