I'm about to build up a pair of Ghisallos. I was under the the impression that a 15 mm (5/8") long nipple would be adequate but it doesn't give me much to get the spoke wrench on. I remember that Torrington had really long (1"?) nipples. I think a 20 mm length would be optimal.
Does anybody have 72 - 20 mm long nipples that they would be willing to part with; or know where I might find some?
Another problem is that modern spokes only have 10 mm of threads. I discovered that you can make a 13 mm thread with a Phil Wood spoke machine. That will be better but I'm afraid that I may have to compromise the amount of penetration into the nipple. Why are you guys grinning?
