Chuck mentioned the original Cycles de Oro in referring to Dale's hipness:

Good description! I wish I had a photo of the place to share. I was attending UNC-Greensboro from 1976-1980, and knew some serious cyclists who frequented the shop then. One of them bought a Silk Hope there and was constantly cleaning and lubing the Campagnolo components on his dorm room floor. When I moved to Greensboro for graduate school in 1983, we rented a house just off Spring Garden St. at the intersection where the co-op and Cycles de Oro were--which was just across the street from Dave Sheppard's Instruments, the best guitar shop in the city. We were members of the co-op, too! Sad to say, I wasn't riding much then, and didn't feel worthy to do much else but gaze through the windows at Cycles de Oro. . . .
Dave Sheppard may have moved his shop, though I'm not sure; I think he's doing repair work only now. I have no idea where the co-op is, though I ran into the manager two springs ago at a shop near Guilford College. Thank goodness Dale and Cycles de Oro are going strong on Mill Street!
