I just bought some nice chromed replacement forks, posibly Tange, Cinelli-type sloping fork crowns for a very reasonable price. One problem, the fork crown races are 27.0 rather than 26.4, which limits choice of headsets. Should I buy a (rather expensive) crown race cutter, or can one acceptable reduce the diameter 0.6 mm with a file? Are there issues with cutting down a chromed fork crown race?
