Subject: [CR]thrift shop bike question

I did my occasional brief circuit of a few thrift shops down in southern Orange County recently and came across the usual, that is to say, almost nothing...

But I did run into one bike that was mildly interesting and I wanted the group's opinion on it. It was a 59cm c-t or so KHS, with the complete Shimano 600 "Arabesque" group on it. The parts with all the curlicues forged therein, and highlighted in black, you know the stuff.

This was a complete group, all the correct bits, including the headset, in good shape, except that the rear derailleur idler wheels were broken.

The bike was quite cheap..and I almost bought it. But since I wasn't sure just what sort of demand there might be for such a thing, I let it go.

Now, if someone here really wanted it, I can go look for it again this weekend. I'd guess it'll be gone, but maybe not.

My more general question is, is there any demand for that group, and if so, what is a realistic market price for it, sans frame, say?

I like it, myself. I have a partial-one-of-these in my bins, or else I *would* have bought the bike. The stuff works great, in my experience, like most Shimano stuff. I just don't like to ride Shimano. Purely an irrational, personal preference...but I do admire the stuff. And the original 600 group is charming, in its way.

Thanks.
