This is a great place to care not one whit about period correct or authenticity; SRAM PC58's shift well for everything with 3/32" thick cogs and chainrings and 4 to 8 rear cogs. I have found the SRAM PC48 to be the most forgiving of cassette and freewheel cog wear; I both use them myself and sell them to customers who want to get more mileage out of parts that other chains skip on. Also, the flexibility of these chains keep them quiet and smooth shifting. I'd call them an enhancement of older drive trains. David Feldman Vancouve, WA, not a SRAM employee!
