Hello all,

Listed below is a digest about frame painting in the US from the USCF D20 listserve. There are some good options on here for those of you that want an alternative from the biggie in the industry. (CycleArt). I have had work done by Fresh Frames in the past and have been very pleased. I have also had work done by one of Dale's guys named Jay Schiavione. He is very good too. I don't know though if he is still painting or if he has gone back into his other business.

CYCLE CLASSICS IN PORTSMOUTH, VA (two referrals) Cycle Classics in Portsmouth, VA specializes in painting, welding, building, etc. The owner, Gordon Freedman, has been doing this for years. He also sponsors the upcoming Twilight Street Sprints in Portsmouth Friday night, 11 July. "Gordon Freedman" <cycclass@earthlink.net> 757-393-4498

FRESH FRAMES IN EPHRATA PA (two referrals) Fresh Frames in Ephrata PA did some REALLY good, albeit expensive, painting for me a few years back.

CYCLES DE ORO IN NORTH CAROLINA (two referrals) 1 - I used Cycles de Oro in North Carolina. I was a bit disappointed. They failed to do some of the things I asked for (a contrasting window on the head tube, plus adding a pump peg on the seat stay) and then the paint job seemed to rub off awful easily on the seat stay. On the up side, they list their prices RIGHT ON THE SITE so you can get an idea of what you're buying. Their turnaround was in the three-month range. 2 - Cycles de Oro in NC did some great work from me and were easy to work with. They have many color options and are popular in North Carolina. Call Dale Brown at 336-274-5959.

CYCLES OF COLOR IN NC Billy, I got my DeRosa painted by a guy named Jay Schiavione who is a friend of Dale Brown at Cycles de Oro. His firm was Cycles of Color but his website is down so I am not sure if he still is in biz. Ask Dale. I bet he still does painting for Dale.

SPECTRUM IN PA Spectrum in Pa does frame painting, although you may be put in the queue behind frames that Spectrum's actually built.

BATON ROUGE CYCLING IN LOUISIANA Here's one (it's not exactly close by, but I'd think quality trumps location) http://www.batonrougecycling.com/creativecycleworks/photos.htm

CITY BIKES - C/O THE FRAME SHOP IN NEW JERSEY I've taken a couple of frames to City Bikes, which then sent them to a place called "The Frame Shop" (I think) in New Jersey. They're pretty reasonable, and good quality. They did a classic old tandem frame I have for around $300.

JOHN HOLLANDS (a source of info) Call John Hollands (the frame builder) in Reisterstown, MD at 410.526.3983.... he uses two excellent sources. One that does primarily painting, the other (near Harrisburg ??) can also do some frame straightening, boss brazing, etc.....

WWW.koolbikes.com New company based in Clemson, SC. I have not done any work with them yet, however they do have a listing of charges for painting or powdercoating on their website. They also indicate that they have the ability to reproduce decals or can airbrush them on. These folks also show a complete facility for frame repair. Here is a direct link to a bike they did for somebody. http://www.koolbikes.com/newbikes/della_santa.html
