Carlo,

My Masi is decaled as a Masi special. It has a replica Masi headbadge. That is why it is neccessary to stamp into the metal, under the chrome, the replica mark. I also marked the fork, again under the chrome, so even if the decals come off, it's still clearly a replica. The extra point on the seat lug, for the extremely astute future vintage bicycle scholar, will also aid in seperating the two. Obviously, the visible difference in the sharpness in the frame under the chrome makes it pretty obvious it is not an original Masi. It's way too clean. That's the "Baylis signiture" on this bike.

The others will be done simularly. Each my size of course. They are not for sale and are meant to be part of my personal private collection. I'm still undecided about building a replica for a customer. For me the joy, the challange, the accomplishment comes in finding the right bits to build the frame with, or perhaps fabricate a few, and working in the "style" of another builder. Doing different stay ends, various seat stay caps and arrangements, working with all kinds of different lugs, crowns, and BB shells, doing different finishes; all of that teaches the framebuilder new and exciting things. It keeps the love alive after 30 plus years at it. Keeps my talents both expanding and refineing at the same time. Experience is a great teacher.
