I agree that 1978 is the approximate time for the first short reach campy brake levers on the following basis: of all the pictures of Eddy Merckx I've seen, NONE showed the short-reach levers, including his Fiat team.

On the other hand, his Fiat bike seemed to have un-perforated non-SR levers, so maybe he was already a retro grouch in 1977.

I've never seen a side-view of Eddy's CA rig. He wasn't getting much press by then.

The SR lever had the same "drill" (threy're pressed, not drilled, ok?) pattern as the earlier levers, but now we're looking at the first SHORT reach levers.
