Subject: [CR]Help with Shimano DeOre Road and shifter bosses.

I bought back a front and rear DeOre road group derailleur set. I bought them new back . . . back . . . well way back.

Sold the bike they were on to raise cash 10 years ago and then had an opportunity last year to I trade on topic Suntour stuff to redeem them. Sadly I need some help with the rear. Also redeemed the TA cyclotourist triple crank that my dad bought for me in 1977. Wahoo!

Does anyone have an extra DeOre body? No jokes really. Or perhaps a whole that is just moldering about unwanted? It should not or have to be nos just serviceable. Mine is missing the cast tab to stop the pulley arms from spinning all the way around and the lower pivot that attaches to the pulley arms when tightened wont pivot at all. I suspect that there is something wonky with the plastic bushing.

Also at the time I did not buy the shifters. I inserted a short piece of stainless tubing to defeat shimano's idea of ideal shifting. Truth be known it wasn't an early form of retrogrouchyness. My decision was based on the cash a cash strapped college kid had to get what I got. I would be interested in peoples experience using them the way shimano intended them.

It is going on a yard sale Ross 290 S. Paid $4.00 to the wizened master of the yard. Equipment I have and are being installed are as follows.

I have a first generation shimano 600 six speed freehub rear with twist tooth cogs 12 x32 and a matching front hub. I am using a Gloria mt stem that is drilled for centerpull breaks. I would like to find some shimano 500 or 600 cp brakes that had the linkage arm otherwise will use Shimano Tourney CP's. I have a SR seatpost that looks like Simplex. SR rando handlebars. Will be buying a Brooks B17 saddle. This is going to be a great rider for a Clydesdale like me. Low gears for getting over the fact that everywhere I ride is uphill around here.

I plan on using Campagnolo bar end shifters just for fun. I have run into a problem with the DT shifter bosses that are brazed on. They are not like Ca mpagnolo but are round and have a tab. Looks kind of like it was cut like a old-fashioned keyhole. Any suggestions other than filing a groove in a set of modern stops?

Finally I would be interested in a pair of shifters, the crank (165mm) and pedals if I can navigate the problems with the rear der.

Does anyone have any experience with using Riv's bar end conversion kit for any DT shifters?

I have stuff to trade as 170 mm cranks are bothering my knees and am converting to shorter crank arms.

Thanks in advance.
