Longer flutes are older. Be aware that many two bolt Record seat posts were milled after market.

I once took a single bolt Super Record post and had a machinist extend the flutes down the shaft and he took special care to shape the cutter so that the profile of the flute was matched exactly. That will confuse the Campagnolo experts decades after I'm gone ;)
