I have a copy of BICYCLING! magazine from June 1980, and in a review of a cycle show on page 117 it says:

"Campagnolo offered three new non-BMX products: a touring crankset which takes chainrings down to 36 teeth, the 980, an economy-model alloy racing derailleur, and an economy, long-cage touring derailleur with the same parallelogram as Campagnolo's racing derailleur".

The accompanying photo shows a Gran Sport rear derailleur with Rally pulley cages, next to a 980 derailleur and a triple crank (Victory or Triomphe or something that sounds like that?).

The brief text of the article complained that even Campy and Cinelli had mostly BMX stuff.

Other new items for road use: the black-plastic Avocet Mod III platform pedals, and stems from TTT and Nitto that had the "clamshell" clamp allowing one to remove the bars without having to remove the tape and brake levers.
