Hi Steven, I can tell you a bit about Ron. I own one his bikes so I also tried to find out what I could. I have an article about him I cut out of a bike magazine but it's at work. I could fax it to you if you like. I also have pictures of my bike and one other bike I could e-mail you if you wish.

What I can remember from my feeble memory. Ron built out of Salt Lake City Utah in the early 90's. He built approx. 554 bikes. He is totally self taught and is known for his unicrown seatstays that he "borrowed" from Strawberry, but he took the design further and developed his own style. He also figured most people could only afford 1 or 2 bikes, so he developed what he considered a "do it all" geometry. He had 3 models, the production model R-2, the Semi custom R-1, and a full custom model. I think I have the R-2. It has the unicrown rear end, stainless internal brake cable tube, basic lugs and is powder coated. The R-1 is similar but had a hidden seat post binder bolt. The custom is just that, with cutouts in the lugs and all. He liked to use Columbus tubing, but would build with anything for more $$$.

I LOVE my bike! This is my go fast bike and is a 60cm c-c which is on the smaller side for me. It has a short wheelbase and max. clearance for a 23c tire. Things are tight! The bike rides like a dream. It is very fast and responsive, yet comfortable. I thought it might be too stiff but it's not. It does have a lot of toe clip overlap, but I don't find it to be a problem. I bought mine a couple of years ago at the Veloswap in Denver for something like $250. It had a combination of Campy and Dura Ace parts on it. I sold all the parts and ended up with a free frame which I've since reassembled.

I'd love to hear anything additional you can find out.

Let me know if you want me to fax the article to you or if you'd like some pic's.

Take care, Rod Kronenberg Fort Collins, CO
