Skip (cousin of Frank but distant), I've had luck with dribbling a little WD40™ into the gap (after cleaning exterior around axle/bearing interface with Q-tip™). The WD40™ acts as a solvent to make the dried out grease greasy again (rejuvenates). Tri-Flow® works too.
