Thanks to everyone who looked at my mystery bike, and especially to Phil Scott, who correctly identified the bike, and even sent me pictures from his catalog. I have updated the web page with the new info and catalog pictures.

I am sure this is a Crescent Bicycle, Made by Western Wheel Works, Chicago, ill; the pictures attached are from an 1899 catalog and 1897, I believe yours is a 1898. Same crank has 99 with 98 having drilled out chainring. I hope this helps.
