Why would anyone want to get rid of (if possible!) the squeel of Mafac "Racer" centerpull brakes? As soon as I took my first ride on my PX-10E after a complete overhaul (including the brakes by someone who knows brakes!), my ears were assaulted by that wretched, wonderful squeel... ah, I felt like I was 16 again riding my brand new UE-8. Mafacs just do that or all the ones I've ever seen or heard. It's a potent safety enhancement. I've had people literally turn and get out of the way when they hear that sound, like a Caravelle coming in for a landing. The squeel is "prototypical". An authentic French sound effect like the scrape of chairs on a pavement cafe or an 2CV down a narrow street.
