Thanks to all who came. The weather certainly looked terrrible in the morning, but lo and behold, we actually got a reasonably dry day, aside from all the puddles lining the route. Steve Maasland came with a 35th anniv. DeRosa, Joe B-Z showed up with a Ross Signature (Redcay), Ray Hominski drove in with Dan(?) Neuhaus. Ray had a borrowed Rigi, and M. Neuhaus was riding a nicely refurbished PX10. Out of respect for the weather, I opted for my fendered Trek 510. I take credit for the lack of rain, on the theory of if you take an umbrella, it will be dry.

We took off about 10:07, and rumbled north on rute 36 through Long Branch and Sea Bright to the park, where we picked up the bike path in Sandy Hook. The local TT was in full swing. The bike path paralleled the TT road route in several places, and it was odd to be passed by someone in full aero mode, the carbon fibre disc wheels moaning in the wind like lost souls. We all reached the lighthouse without incident, aside from a few cyclo cross moments where the park service hadn't finished the path yet.

After a short break at the lighthouse for chocolate chip cookies, Maasland, B-Z and Hominski went to the front and turned up the pace as we picked up the tail wind. Given the chilly weather we all opted for the short route, so Mt. Mitchell waits for another day. We went back on the main park road (as the TT was over) and this is apparently where we missed Paul Brodek, who had arrived a little after we left, and was chasing us along the bike path on his beautiful full Campy Merz touring rig. But Paul caught us at the parking lot at the end of the ride, and swapped me a nice Nitto stem for a pair of campy shifters. Steve Maasland had to circle the field a few times at the end, trying to get unclipped from his C-Record pedals, and eventually had to slip his feet out of of his shoes to stop. But the pedals did release fine at the light house. A mystery.

Anyway, thanks to everyone who came, and, as no one was kilt, I'll probably hold another one of these in May. Hosting a CR ride is fun and easy! Try it.

>Just a quick note to say thank you to KC Tom for organizing the CR ride along the New Jersey shore today. It is too bad that there were not more participants as notwithstanding the awful weather yesterday and threatening weather today, we had a dry and enjoyable ride. The roads were good and the company pleasant. My legs are still aching from the incredible amount of climbing we did, but the view of the skyline of New York City 29 miles away from the mountaintop was truly spectacular.
