Being friction, of course, the Simplex SLJ rear mech will work well with almost any lever, so your Campy levers will get you on the road. The functional questions are whether the levers you choose slip or not, and whether they pull the right amount of cable. The Simplex retrofriction levers don't slip like Campys and other non retro friction levers can, but the Simplex pulls less cable than most other levers. so with many derailleurs you have to move the lever a long ways to get a shift. This really annoys some folks, and some folks don't mind. The advantage of the Simplex is that they have a lovely light, no slip action, due to the retrofriction mechanism. But it is possible for that mech to fail in mid ride. I've never seen it, but I'm told by list members it can happen.

My recollection from my PX10 is that the shifting with matched Simplex levers and rear mechs is quite good, an excellent match. Try it and see what you think.

I've also used a suntour BarCon with an SLJ, and that also is a good match. And Huret Duopars love the Simplex levers. I think the Duopar moves more for a given cable pull than any other derailleur. It's almost too much with a Campy shift lever.

As far as mounting the levers, either wait for a clamp on set of simplex levers to turn up (they do exist), or look for a clamp on set of bosses. Campy made them, and they work with the Simplex levers. I understand it's possible to take an existing pair of campy clamp-on levers and reduce them to a set of bosses, but some washer part is destroyed getting the levers off. I've never done it, and your mileage may vary.

Or, to be really artsy, get a Rivendell set of Bar Con adaptors, and turn those Simplex levers to Bar Cons. Have fun.

>Question for listmembers: what are the best shifters for this rear derailleur? I have seen some of the Simplex retrofriction dt shifters, but all the ones I have seen require shifter frame bosses. I have campy shifters SR currently...will those work or can the shifter clamp be adapted to make the Simplex Retros work.....any assistance would be appreciated.
