I think AX is solidly within the timeline ( and shown on the CR site). I believe that was Shimano's first use of the freehub.

You make a very good point here. Also as one list member pointed out, the more lasting inovations of Shimano's freehub system and intergrated shifters/brakelevers came after the CR timeline.
