Hi Mark,

You are correct in pointing out my latest mistake, I just copied it incorrectly in the email today.

Obviously it makes more sense that A is Jan.

thanks for catching that error.

Grant, Thank you for posting about the Shimano dating information. When I went to copy, paste, and save that info, I noticed that I had already done this with a previous post you made with regard to the same subject. However, in your other post (from Thurs. Dec. 4th, 2003), you cited A as January, B as February, C as March, etc. Can you please clear up this slight inconsistency for us? I have copied my originally saved information to be included immediately following my signoff below. Thanks very much...

Jody, you can see the history of dura-ace at: http://dura-ace.shimano.com/publish/content/duraace/en/home/history/7400.htm l

1984 was the year S.I.S was launched (Orwellian coincidence?)

You can figure out what year stuff was made by locating the two letter date code, stamped on just about every part after 1976.

Harris,

it's easy to date your shimano.

Almost all shimano parts have a two letter code stamped on them that is the date that part was made.

1st letter is the year, and 2nd is the month of manufacture.

A 1976. A DEC B 1977 B JAN C 1978 C FEB D 1979 D MAR E 1980 E APRIL F 1981 F MAY etc

If you bike was bought in sept of 81, it was probally build 6 months before.

Check it out!

Message: 3 Subject heading pretty much tells it all.Other thing I noticed when I pulled it out to check, the headset is alloy and it just says Shimano 600.
