Subject: [CR]For sale 1970 Legnano

For sale:

1970 Legnano with full Campagnolo Nuovo Record gruppo except for the brakes which are Universal Super 68's.

This bike has a combination of features that apparently make it quite unusual. It combines the typical old-style Legnano seat-lug bolt (I believe this is the last year they used this solution on the top-of-the-line bikes; the bolt is mounted in front of the seat-tube and below the top-tube), with vertical Campagnolo rear drop-outs (does anybody know of any earlier bike with these drop-outs?) and handlebars that are decidedly wide for the period (old logo 100 mm Cinelli stem with hex-bolt and 42 cm C/C Cinelli bars with old logo).

Frame is 55 cm C/C x 55 cm C/C Wheelbase is a short 98 cm.

This is the bike that Chuck Schmidt rode on the Saturday ride at le cirque. According to my bathroom scales, the bike weighs in at just under 10 kg so I would guess it to be about 21 lbs.

The bike is white with red head and seat-tube panels and chromed headlugs and last few inches of stays and fork blades. Presently the bike has a Selle San Marco Rolls saddle but I can easily substitute this for a 1980 Brooks Professional if you want.

I would like $1000 for it. I can supply photos to anybody who might be interested.
