Many people say that the 1R all were doomed to slip. I believe this is a fallacy. I have been using one on my tandem for over 20 years and it has never slipped or creaked. I used them on a number of other bikes too, always with the same results. When I installed the stems, I always made sure everything was thoroughly lathered in grease and it worked. I did however have one break across the front, likely because the grease allowed me to overtighten the stem (Cinelli promptly replaced it free of charge).
