Maxi-Car hubs were made in small batches, and were sold direct from the factory to bike dealers. So there weren't any left in the distribution pipeline. Within a year, they were sold out, and that was that. In 1999, they sold for about 200 Euros a pair.

Cycles Alex Singer has been searching high and low in France for these, and no luck. They have a few left, but once they are gone (only on new bikes, not sold separately), people who want them on their bikes will have to supply their own. -- Jan Heine, Seattle Editor/Publisher Vintage Bicycle Quarterly http://www.mindspring.com/~heine/bikesite/bikesite/
